Newsletter
No spam, no clutter. One email per month, bright and early on the 10th.
Each newsletter contains a brief update about my work, including announcements and links to recent releases or projects, and three recommendations: one Fiction Book, one Non-Fiction Book, and Something Else (a wildcard category to keep things interesting). Each recommendation is accompanied by a brief review. I don’t give star-ratings, and will never pass along anything I had a moderate or mixed opinion of. Enthusiastic endorsements only!
Why the relentless positivity? While criticism is crucial to the arts, it’s far less useful when it’s sequestered off in a newsletter, where fewer people in the industry can see and engage with it. It’s also a waste of limited space and energy. I can only write a few reviews a month. I’d rather use them to promote diverse writers and artists who are doing good things and deserve more attention.
In 2025, authors featured in the newsletter were 30% 2SLGBTQ+, 61% BIPOC, and 70% gender-marginalized. 39% of recommended books were Canadian. A list of (most) of my 2025 newsletter recommendations can be found on Bookshop.org.
A Quick Note About Ethics
If I received a book for free, either from the publisher or from friends and colleagues in the industry, I will always disclose that relationship in my review. While I may make a small amount of money through referral codes, I will never partner with a brand, or accept payment of any kind, for reviews or advertising in the newsletter.
Signing up for the newsletter will only put you on the newsletter list. Your email address will never be shared, and won’t be used for any other marketing or communications.
