The Banff Writers Group is an inclusive community for writers in Banff and the Bow Valley, hosted by Emily Strempler and Jeremy Allard.
Regular weekly social and co-working meetups take place on Sundays, from 2-4pm, at the Happy Camper Café & Bar (545 Banff Ave). Our format is: half an hour of social time, followed by an hour of quiet co-working, then another half an hour at the end for wrap up. All experience levels and projects welcome, whether you're working on a book, blog, paper, personal journal, script, or anything else, so long as it is “written.”
We’re not a critique or reading group, so there’s no need to bring anything to share with other members.
We (the hosts) primarily speak English, but the group is language inclusive. Attendees are welcome to write, or chat, in any language.
Banff is a diverse community and we seek to create a welcoming environment for all attendees, no matter who they are, who they love, or where they come from. We ask that all who attend respect the right of others to feel safe and included.
We keep our events up to date on the calendar and rarely cancel meetups (in fact, we’ve only ever done it once). In the unlikely event of a cancellation, we will update the event title and description with more information, and will attempt to notify regularly attending members in advance.
Our calendar also features low and no cost writing events in the Banff-Canmore area. For more information about each event, please follow the links in the event description, and direct questions to the event organizers.
If you know of a writing event, or are hosting a writing event (workshop, reading, signing, talk, etc.), and don’t see it here, send me (Emily) an email via the contact page and let me know.
